First lets get this straight, pagan is a broad term used to describe anyone who is not Christian or Jewish. Now that thats out of the way we can get to the subject of a Pagan Wedding.
Pagan weddings have been around a long long time. This is a way for you to control exactly what your wedding consists of. Also for some people who would rather not get married in the church setting a pagan wedding may be just right for you. Also if you are having and interfaith wedding this would be perfect for you.
A pagan wedding can be anything you want it to be and can include anything you want it to. Also it can be legally binding or not, its all up to what you are looking to get out of it. Anything in a pagan wedding can be tailored to suit your description. It can be used for a man and a woman, man and a man, woman and a woman, or even a group. As long as you cover the states process of a legal marriage it will be accepted as a legal marriage.
Vows in a pagan wedding can say anything you want them to also. If you don't want to commit to life, you can change it to as long as the love lasts. That is just one example. If you can dream it, it can happen.
There are many things you can do in a pagan wedding to make it yours. One such item is a handfasting ceremony. Other items include jumping the broom, the rose ceremony, the blessing of the hands, and the wreath ceremony.
Handfasting in a pagan wedding is the ritual in which the hands are bound together as the vows are stated. This is where the modern phrase tying the not came from.
Jumping the broom stood for several different things in a pagan wedding. In some customs, all single men would run after the broom and the first one to grab it would be the next man to be married. In other customs the bride would be pushed over the broom by the unmarried woman, as to say she is on the other side now, separate from the single women. The most common use of jumping the broom in a pagan wedding is during the handfasting ceremony the bride and groom jump over the broom as if it is a thresh hold. By stepping over the broom the bride and groom are starting their new life together.
This is all the info I have gotten from my journey to plan my wedding. It came from all around the internet. The point of this is, no matter what you want for a ceremony, you can get it out of a pagan wedding.
